When it comes to building a Mazda vehicle, there is a lot more that goes into it than just it’s stylish exterior and comfortable interior. The Mazda brand also ensures to create vehicles that provide a very safe and reliable performance for its driver. This is why it is no surprise to us at Liberty Mazda that not one, not two, but three Mazda models have received the highest safety rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The IIHS, the go-to for comprehensive vehicle safety information, is an independent research organization that performs safety crash tests and analyses. The IIHS delivers its yearly safety winners in two categories, op safety pick, or an even higher ranking, top safety pick+. The three award-winning Mazda cars fell under the latter, superior category. “To qualify for 2017 top safety pick+, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the five crashworthiness tests, an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and a good or acceptable headlight rating,” IIHS explains.

The three Mazda models on this year’s list were the 2017 Mazda3—in both the 4-door sedan and 4-door hatchback styles—under the Small cars category, 2017 Mazda6 in the midsize category, and 2017 Mazda CX-3 in the Small SUVS category. This is not a first for the automaker, as they continuously have been named on the IIHS Safety Picks list.
